Candidates research, recommend, and implement strategies for initiating and sustaining technology innovations and for managing the change process in schools. (PSC 1.4/ISTE 1d)
Artifact: Action and Evaluation Plan
Reflection:
The action/evaluation plan was developed based on the results of the SWOT analysis completed on Wayne County High School. There were five goals created that focused on skilled teachers, instructional change, centering instruction around students, diversity considerations, and related to school improvement. Evaluation methods, indications of success, strategies, timelines, budget/funding sources, and people responsible were all identified in each of the goals I created. This was an independent class project based on our evaluation of the SWOT analysis results.
When creating this plan, I had to research and recommend strategies to use in order to reach the goal set for each of the areas. In addition, I had to include how and who would implement the strategies listed in the plan, identify the sources for the budget/funding, and evaluation methods used during the execution of the plan.
This plan was used to illustrate new, innovative technologies used to promote instructional change for using technologies as assessment tools for students. Another goal exemplifies the importance of teachers using their short-throw projectors interactively in the classroom, instead of for projection purposes only. The plan is also focused on students and demonstrates the importance of creating a technology club to become more familiar with the categories in the technology fair and introduction of new technologies they currently may not know how to use. Subgroups, females, students with disabilities, and gifted and talented students are considered in the plan as well, with hopes of digital inventories being used to identify their specific needs. The improvement of a shared vision and technology plan specific for high school students is also a need and goal for Wayne County High School. All of these goals have strategies that align to their improvement and implementation.
Strategies I recommended included developing a STEAM Team, creating, implementing, and analyzing (the results) a digital inventory, creating an after-school technology club, improving technology tips on the county’s website, improving professional development opportunities, and providing professional development unambiguous to the needs listed in the goals are all strategies being used to achieve the goals listed in the plan.
While completing this artifact, I learned the importance of creating achievable and measureable goals aligned to the needs of the school. I learned how to create strategies to meet those goals with a timeline, budget, and assessment tool to accompany them. To improve this artifact, I would include a timeline that is more specific with dates of implementation.
The artifact improved school improvement by the identification of goals needed to improve student and teacher use of different technologies in the classroom for instructional and student-learning purposes. Professional development opportunities were included and aligned with each of the standards presented. The impact can be assessed through the evaluation methods and success indicators listed for each of the goals on the plan. Each of the methods and indicators are explicit to the goal listed.
