Artifact: One-Hour Technology Workshop
Reflection:
The one-hour technology workshop is the artifact I am using to support my ability to develop and implement technology-based professional learning. This assignment was completed to promote technology integration aligned with state and national professional learning standards. It was completed as an individual class assignment.
Planning and executing a workshop that supported both face-to-face instruction and online components was a timely process but worth the effort. For the one-hour technology workshop, I created a website to introduce during face-to-face instruction that was available and purposed for ongoing learning to continue. The website has the functionality to teach both teachers and students how to create both multimedia and non-multimedia presentations. While teaching the workshop, I promoted best practices in teaching and learning by using learning-focused lesson formats and focusing on standards-based instruction. After the workshop was complete and teachers had time to create their own presentations, they finalized their learning statuses through survey questions sent to them via Google Form. The results to the survey showed positive effects occurred in response to the workshop in both their professional practices and instruction to their students. The survey served as an assessment piece for which I used to evaluate the process and success of the workshop.
I learned the importance of having an online component embedded within professional learning for the use of ongoing learning to take place. Having a resource for teachers to refer back to that refreshes concepts learning in face-to-face instruction is an excellent way to provide a strong instructional environment and models best practices for teachers to use in their classrooms. If I could change anything about this workshop, I would include more resources and ideas for teachers to use for the students in their classrooms.
The work that went into creating the artifact positively impacted school improvement and faculty learning due to increasing their knowledge in how to create presentations using new digital tools; in addition, student learning was increased because they learned how to create them as well. Student presentations were created as informal and formal assessments to share their knowledge about standards learned in class. The impact can be assessed through observations, products, lesson plans, and surveys.
