Artifact: Current Reality and GAPSS Analysis
Reflection:
The artifact, “Current Reality and GAPPS Analysis,” was created to outline the school’s current status in a variety of areas. With a zoomed-in lens, I took a deeper look and analyzed the school’s vision, data-driven professional learning, types of professional learning, recent technology trainings, follow-up technology support, alignment of professional learning and school-improvement goals, funding of professional learning, incentives for participation, professional learning for diverse and special needs, collaborative school-wide learning, and the assessment of impact of professional learning. The assignment was completed individually.
The purpose of this assignment was to evaluate the current programs to determine the overall effectiveness of professional learning. While completing this assignment, I gained a deeper understanding of the teacher content knowledge within the school. This information allowed me to form an educated opinion on ways to improve teacher pedagogical skills and increase student learning. This assignment led to identifying the strengths and weaknesses of the school’s different professional learning opportunities that focus specifically on technology. With the information found, I was able to identify the lack of incentives for professional learning and the need for more instruction on the current devices being used within the school. I also found that teachers need more common planning time with technology leaders within the school, which could help increase more uses with the technology already placed in classrooms. Improving these areas for professional learning in the area of technology is sure to increase student learning for the future.
I learned the current reality of the school in the area of professional learning while completing this artifact. Knowing the current reality is the only way to make a true assessment of the direction in where the school needs to be going as well as the steps in getting there. If I could change anything about this artifact, I would include more resources and current data to enrich my knowledge and understanding.
A lot of the information I learned gave me a clear view of where the school currently functions with technology. School improvement and faculty development was impacted positively through the gathering of resources, sharing of information, understanding of current reality, and ways to improve it. The impact can be assessed through daily lesson plans, observations, and follow-up surveys.
