Artifact: Copyright and Fair Use PowerPoint Presentation
Reflection:
The Copyright and Fair Use PowerPoint is the artifact I am using to demonstrate my knowledge of using technology in a safe, healthy, legal, and ethical way. I created the PowerPoint to share with the teachers in my building to raise awareness of the laws and facts associated with copyrights and fair-use laws. The assignment was completed as an individual project.
The PowerPoint clearly illustrates my mastery and knowledge of the standard at hand; it illustrates my knowledge of using videos in the classroom and the laws associated with it. The laws for types of videos usage, types of videos that are viewed, and use of videos for integration are included within the PowerPoint and includes information all teachers should know prior to showing videos in their classrooms. Showing videos in classrooms should be done in a safe, healthy, legal, and ethical way; the project details how to accomplish that with digital information and technologies, focusing on video use.
I learned the exact laws and information for showing videos in my classroom as well as shared the information with others. If I could improve this project, I would add more areas where fair use and copyright information is pertinent in education.
Because the PowerPoint was shared with others, the information impacted school improvement and faculty development by increasing awareness and knowledge when showing videos in the classroom. Students also learned about these laws when creating their technology fair projects and with other projects in my classroom, which impacted student learning as well. The impact can be assessed through surveys to identify knowledge in the area of copyrights and fair-use laws to both students and teachers.
