During the Data Analysis and School Improvement course, I learned a wealth of information that will contribute to my abilities to be a leader in education and with technology. Of the things I learned, there were several that stood out to me as most valuable. I learned how to analyze different types of data such as aggregated, disaggregated, strand-specific, in terms of ethnicities and gender, etc. This allowed my mind to open up to the different parts I needed to consider for analyzing as well as delving deeper into the reasons behind why the data was as is. Another skill I learned was to create charts that clearly demonstrated the information found; this skill is something that could be valuable to all teachers in the world of education today. I also learned how to take this information, create a presentation, and communicate the information found in a creative, yet enlightening way.
In my opinion, the most valuable field experience in this course would have to be the Data Overview. This project allowed me to open my eyes to a new view on data, in terms of findings as well as presenting it to others. I plan on sharing this information with my principal and possibly presenting it at a meeting in the near future. I will continue to analyze data in the ways I have learned through this course. Although I personally like data and the possibilities that align with it, I also understand there are challenges to face when presenting it to a school. I know that presenting it in a non-blaming way will be key, as I have also learned from this course. Presenting information in a factual, and non-opinionated way, can be hard sometimes; however, it can also be gratifying when great results follow behind it.
Overall, this course was beneficial in terms of educational leadership and I learned a lot from it. I will continue to collect and analyze data, using and applying the skills and knowledge I learned from this course.
